The Hollywood News’ 2017 Summer Movie Preview

We know it is only mid-March, but the blockbuster movies are already starting to arrive, so we thought we’d take a look at what’s to come in the coming months in our special 2017 summer movie preview.

2017 Summer Movie Preview

I suppose that this year’s big films kicked off with February’s very well received Logan, which actually debuted at the Berlin Film Festival. Like last year’s Deadpool, studios are starting to release their tent-poles much earlier, and there are no signs of any let up between now and the end of August.

This past weekend we got Kong: Skull Island, a film that also opened to good reviews, and this current week sees the release of Disney’s long awaited live-action adaption of their classic animated movie Beauty and the Beast. Then sees the arrival of Lionsgate’s Power Rangers, and then Paramount’s Ghost In The Shell, before Universal unleash their big guns with Fast and Furious 8 (aka The Fate and the Furious) hitting at the beginning of April.

As soon as that speeds into cinemas, we look forward to the first Marvel movie of the year in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which arrives slightly earlier in the UK, at the end of next month. Then it’s into the May with the likes of Alien: Covenant, Pirates of the Caribbean : Dead Men Tell No Tales, King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword and the movie remake of Baywatch hitting multiplexes.

In June it’s the turn of Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth film is the movie series, and also Universal PicturesThe Mummy with Tom Cruise, and then the highly anticipated Cars 3, Despicable Me 3 and some little movie named Wonder Woman. Into July for the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, War For The Planet Of The Apes, Valerian and the massive Christopher Nolan WWII movie Dunkirk.

Finally, August. That month sees the dying days of summer and also the debut of Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, a movie that debuted at SXSW this past weekend, Charlize Theron in Atomic Blonde and the horror sequel Annabelle 2.

So yes, quite the year. To take a look at some of those movies in very small clips, edited in true cinematic style, take a look at our 2017 summer movie preview below – and let us know what you think!
