First Photos: James Franco plays twins in HBO’s next big series ‘The Deuce’

The Deuce photos land online ahead of the new show’s debut this summer.

Some early images from HBO‘s new TV drama The Deuce, which comes to the screen courtesy of The Wire creator David Simon, have just dropped online. The Deuce photos come courtesy of Entertainment Weekly who give us our first look at James Franco playing the Martino twins – one a struggling bartender and the other his slacker brother – in the cable series, which arrives later this year.

Franco plays the duo, two key players in Times Square who became involved with the mob by providing fronts for the sex industry’s early days. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays a sex worker in the show, an entrepreneurial prostitute named Candy. She can be seen in the second image.

Simon spoke with EW and offered the series as a critique of market capitalism:

“It’s a product that didn’t exist, and then it existed. What happened to the human beings that made it come to be, and what was the cost of that? If we can affect that and stay on that fence, and not be either sneering at it or indulgent in it, it will be a worthwhile piece. If we don’t, then God help us.”

Simon is also responsible for Treme, Homicide: Life On The Street and Show Me A Hero.

Gary Carr, Margarita Levieva, Lawrence Gilliard Jr., Dominique Fishback and Emily Meade are also amongst the cast. Simon, George Pelecanos and Richard Price co-wrote the series for the cable network.

The Deuce is set to hit HBO this summer. We’ll bring you more as it is fired our way. Check out The Deuce photos below.
