Casting has started on Peter Jackson‘s next project, the big-screen adaptation of the book Mortal Engines. Robbie Sheehan (Fortitude) and Ronan Raftery (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) will join the film, Sheehan in the lead and Raftery in a supporting role.
The film is set in the world of the Traction Era, where mobile cities fight for survival in a post-apocalyptic future. The first instalment of the four books by Phillip Reeve introduces young apprentice Tom Natsworthy and the murderous Hester Shaw, flung from the fast-moving city of London into heart-stopping adventures in the wastelands of the Great Hunting Ground.
The four books in the series are: “Mortal Engines”, “Predator’s Gold”, “Infernal Devices” and “A Darkling Plain.”
Jackson, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens (The Lord Of The Rings, Hobbit trilogies) have adapted the work for the big screen, while Christian Rivers is set to direct.
Shooting kicks off this spring in New Zealand. The film has a December 14, 2018 set bu Universal, who will distribute internationally.
