Krampus and Trick ‘R Treat helmer Michael Dougherty will direct the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 remake of Godzilla. The project is set up at Warner Bros. and Legendary, and has a release date set for March 22nd 2019.
Dougherty has been working on the screenplay to the big-budget film since October, and will now take on the directing gig for his biggest project yet.
There are huge plans for the franchise over at Warner Bros. Later this year they will release Kong: Skull Island featuring the iconic King Kong, a character who will cross paths with Godzilla in Godzilla vs. Kong, which is set for a May 29th 2020 bow.
Dougherty also co-wrote screenplays for Superman Returns and X2: X-Men United, so he’s not stranger to big-budget fare.
