The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that a remake of the 1990s comedy-sports film White Men Can’t Jump is in the works. Kenya Barris, the creator of U.S. comedy Black-ish, is behind the White Men Can’t Jump remake, which is based over at 20th Century Fox.

According to the trade, Barris has teamed with Blake Griffin of the NBA’s Los Angeles Clippers and Ryan Kalil of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers to develop the remake of Ron Shelton’s superb 1992 movie, which was led by Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes.

In the film, Billy (Harrelson) and Sydney (Snipes) think they’re the best basketball hustlers in town, so when they join forces, nothing can stop them, except each other. To add to their problems, Billy owes money and is being chased by a pair of gangster types. Meanwhile, Billy’s girlfriend Gloria (Rosie Perez) has dreams of her own, to appear on the classic TV game show Jeopardy!

Black-ish is a break out his Stateside, and screens in the UK on E4.

Dre Johnson (Anthony Anderson) has it all: a great job, a beautiful wife, Rainbow (Tracee Ellis Ross), four kids and a big home in a classy neighborhood, but as a black man, he begins to question whether all his success has brought too much cultural assimilation for his family. With the help of his father (special guest star Laurence Fishburne), Dre begins to try to create a sense of ethnic identity for the members of his family that will allow them to honor their background while preparing them to embrace the future.

Barris will write the new screenplay for the White Men Can’t Jump remake.
