Lucasfilm will not digitally recreate Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa

Digital Carrie Fisher in future Star Wars episodes? There are no plans, says Lucasfilm.

Lucasfilm have released an official statement on StarWars.com in response to fan speculation online that a digital Carrie Fisher will be used in future Star Wars sequels. The company, own by Disney had the following to say.

Digital Carrie Fisher

“We don’t normally respond to fan or press speculation, but there is a rumor circulating that we would like to address.”

“We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.”

“Carrie Fisher was, is, and always will be a part of the Lucasfilm family. She was our princess, our general, and more importantly, our friend. We are still hurting from her loss. We cherish her memory and legacy as Princess Leia, and will always strive to honor everything she gave to Star Wars.”

Let’s hope that puts an end to all of this ‘digital Carrie Fisher’ talk once and for all.

Fisher passed away on December 27th at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, after being taken ill on a flight from London to L.A. on Christmas Eve. In the weeks that followed, various internet websites reported that options were available to digital recreate Leia in Episode 9, which will start shooting next year. It is thought that Fisher had completed her shooting schedule on Episode 8, but following the appearance of a 19-year-old Fisher in last month’s Rogue One, and the featured performance of Peter Cushing’s likeness as Moff Tarkin, everyone jumped to conclusions that Lucasfilm would take the same approach with future Star Wars sequels that involved Fisher’s iconic character.

Thankfully, it looks like Lucasfilm will be taking a very different path, and a digital Carrie Fisher is something that will definitely not be seeing on the screen any time soon.
