It looks like Warner Bros. are pushing ahead with a new screen version of DC Comics’ Green Lantern. Trade blog Deadline are reporting that David Goyer will team with Justin Rhodes for Green Lantern Corps.

Deadline reports that the Green Lantern Corps film will be an original story and will essentially be Lethal Weapon in space in terms of tone. So, expect a buddy movie with tons of comedy and even more action?

The focus will be on two characters: Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The latter is an African American Marine sniper before he joined the Lantern Corps and the story very much focuses on his relationship with Jordan and the Corps.

No news as to whether Ryan Reynolds will be back as Hal Jordan following his turn in the Martin Campbell directed 2011 movie. Now that he’s involved with Deadpool, we’re guessing not. The sequel to 2016′ break-out R-rated hit is now in actively development, which Reynolds is heavily involved in.

The Green Lantern Corps first appeared in Showcase #22, which hit comic book stores back in 1959. The Green Lantern Corps patrol the farthest reaches of the DC Universe at the behest of the Guardians, a race of immortals residing on the planet Oa.

Green Lantern Corps is set up over at Warner Bros. and DC. DC heads Geoff Johns and Jon Berg are executive producing the planned effort, which currently has no release date set. However, according to the film’s IMDB page, they have 2020 listed as a street date. That it obviously not confirmed by the studio at this stage.

We will bring you more on the Green Lantern Corps film as we get it.
