Will Smith and Tom Hanks are reportedly looking to star in Disney’s planned live-action remake of Dumbo. The film, which is set to be directed by Tim Burton, is actively in development in the studio, along with a multitude of their other animated classics. The first of the latest bunch to hit cinemas is March’s Beauty and the Beast, which hits on the 17th.
Smith has just appeared in two high-profile releases, last summer’s Suicide Squad and the drama Collateral Beauty, which debuted over the holiday period. He is also set to star in David Ayer’s Bright for Netflix, and will amp up the action for Bad Boys For Life, the third film in the Bad Boys franchise.
Hanks is looking to star as the villain of the planned movie, and has been officially offered the part, according to an article over on Variety.
Dumbo is based on a new screenplay, based on the original movie, Ehren Kruger. A soon-ish production start is planned, which could conflict with Smith’s next Bad Boys outing, which is also just about ready to kick off shooting.
Hanks’ apparence in Dumbo could also clash with his confirmed work on the World War II drama The Grey Hound, so it all sounds a little up in the air for him too presently.
We’ll bring you more as we get it.
