Donald Glover on preparing to play Lando Calrissian in the Han Solo movie

Fresh from his big win at the Golden Globe awards on Sunday (for the hit series Atlanta), Donald Glover has been speaking about his next big role as Lando Calrissian in the forthcoming stand-alone Han Solo movie, which is set to start filming next month.

The actor was speaking to USA Today about the iconic role, which was originally played in the first trilogy by Billy Dee Williams. The actor was asked how he was preparing for the big role.

“Not getting to eat anything enjoyable for the rest of my life,” Glover said.

“Lando’s a big deal to me. It was literally the first toy I ever got. When you have something that’s kind of iconic … where people pay attention to it, it’s hard because you want to live up to the expectation. But all you can do is live up to your own. And Star Wars is really high. I really just want to have fun. The directors: (Christopher Miller and Phil Lord), they’re amazing. I love the guy who is playing Han (Alden Ehrenreich). It’s going to be a good time. It’s going to be fun. I’m getting ready to just have fun with those guys.”

The word on the street is that the next stand-alone Star Wars story will head to Europe for filming, with Making Star Wars reporting that shooting could head to the Canary Islands, specifically Fuerteventura which is known for its ‘rugged, hilly western landscape’. It is thought that the production will also take in parts of Italy.

The film is currently set for a May 2018 release date, but there have been rumours that it may change to the following December. We’ll bring you more on that as it is revealed.
