BAFTA Rising Star nominees 2017: This year’s nominees for the break-out acting award have been announced at a morning ceremony in London’s Piccadilly.

The nominees for this year’s BAFTA Rising Star award have been announced. Anya Taylor-Joy, Ruth Negga, Tom Holland, Manchester By The Sea‘s Lucas Hedges and Spanish actress Laia Costa are all up for the prestigious award this year.
Taylor-Joy, seen in a variety of movies over the past few years, including the superb The Witch, her break-out role said: “I can’t quite put into words how it feels to be in the company of such talent, past and present. All my love and gratitude.”
Hedges, who will be seen in the aforementioned drama Manchester By The Sea from next week, said: “It’s really exciting to be recognised for an award that has nominated many of my favourite actors over the years.”
“I’ve always been enamoured with English culture and have dreamed of living in England, so this nomination is particularly meaningful for me.”
Tom Holland will be seen in this summer’s big Marvel Studios/ Sony movie Spider-Man: Homecoming, while Ruth Negga is getting huge praise for the forthcoming Loving opposite Joel Egerton.
Laia Costa attratced huge praise for her role in the one-take, one-shot wonder that was Victoria, a film that was released in a limited capacity in 2016.
Previous winners of the award include Noel Clarke, James McAvoy, Tom Hardy and John Boyega, who took home the gong last year.
Members of the public can vote at ee.co.uk/bafta. The winner will be announced at the EE British Academy Film Awards on February 12, along with the rest of this year’s BAFTA awards winners.
