Ten films remain in the chase for the Best Visual Effects Oscar at next February’s Academy Awards. There are some interesting movies featured in the visual effects shortlist, notably this weekend’s big opener Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Also mentioned is the stunning Arrival, Captain America: Civil War, The BFG, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, and more, but for me The Jungle Book surely has this wrapped up.
The full nominations for the 89th Oscars will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017, as will the final five for Best Visual Effects.
The awards themselves will be dished out in a lavish ceremony on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood.
Here’s the short-list for the Best Visual Effects Oscar.
Arrival
The BFG
Captain America: Civil War
Deepwater Horizon
Doctor Strange
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them
The Jungle Book
Kubo and the Two Strings
Passengers
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
