If you’re unaware of the name, or the work of Walton Goggins, then you’re missing out on one of the best acting talents working in Hollywood today. The actor, who has credits like The Hateful Eight, Django Unchained, Justified, The Shield and his unmissable performance in Sons Of Anarchy to his name, has just been cast as the villain in the forthcoming Tomb Raider reboot. Trade bible Variety report the news of the casting

Goggins will play the Tomb Raider villain in the movie, which will see Alicia Vikander play Lara Croft. Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is directing the movie, which will be released on March 16th, 2016.

There are currently two Tomb Raider films out there, both starring Angelina Jolie, and neither that good (in our honest opinion). The first one, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, released in 2001, grossed $247 million globally, while its sequel two years later, titled Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, only managed a paltry $156 million from a reported $95 million budget.

The word is that the new movie will be based more around a younger Croft (aged 21) ‘being sent off on her first big adventure amid amped-up action and set pieces.’ That was the general plot of the rebooted game which appeared back in 2013.

Graham King’s GK Films are behind the reboot which will start shooting in the first part of 2017.

Goggins can currently be seen in the first season of the comedy Vice Principals, opposite Danny McBride, a second season for which has already been commissioned.

We’ll bring you more on the Tomb Raider reboot as it comes our way.
