I can’t believe how busy Joe Carnahan is at the moment. Not only has the celebrated director of that classic 2000s drugs movie NARC got Bad Boys 3 (known as Bad Boys For Life) on the horizon for an early 2017 start, but is also putting together a cast to die for for the planned Five Against A Bullet.
The action film, which Carnahan is down as just a writer for (sadly) has just bagged itself one of the greatest action movie stars of all-time in Jackie Chan. Variety reported the casting and says that the film will be set in a small Mexican town which is under attack by the drug cartel. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing the film through his Di Bonventura Pictures for Sony, along with Suretone Pictures, Jordan Schur through Mimran Schur Pictures and Jackie Chan himself.
“The story centers on five world-weary bodyguards who are signed on to protect a Mexican politician after his father is murdered by a cartel, ahead of an election.”
Naturally, Chan has been cast as one of those five severely fatigued bodyguards. We’re down for this. Big style. It is sounding a bit like Sicario meets The Expendables, right? Perhaps not, but we’re super excited to see who gets cast next (Bruce Willis was previously attached to the project, though he’s not any more).
Carnahan reworked Alex Litvak’s existing 2014 script, though he probably won’t direct as he’s tied up with that Bad Boys action. The filmmaker also has the Uncharted screenplay under his belt writing wise, and also the remake of the classic Charles Bronson film Death Wish. Eli Roth is currently directing the aforementioned Bruce Willis in that movie.
