The shortlist for the Best Documentary Oscar for the 2017 Academy Awards has been whittled down to 15 films. The voting now begins at the Academy Awards Of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Documentary Branch who’ll choose five films which will be announced along with the other nominees in January.
Here are the 15 films from the 145 that were in contention.

The 89th Oscar nominations will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017. The awards themselves will be distributed at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday February 26th. As announced earlier this week, the ceremony will be presented by Jimmy Kimmel. He follows solid turns by Chris Rock in 2016, and Ellen Degeneres in 2015.
