More on the Adrift movie news below.

Adrift movie

Snowden and Divergent actress Shailene Woodley will star in the forthcoming hurricane thriller Adrift for Everest and Contraband director Baltasar Kormakur.

Variety reports the news that Woodley will top-line the planned feature, which is a true story of a woman and her fiance who, ‘after setting sail from Tahiti, find themselves in the middle of a massive hurricane. After being knocked unconscious, the woman finds her boat in ruins and her fiance missing, now lost at sea. The rest of the story follows her 1,500 mile journey back to Hawaii while battling the elements.’

The film is being bundled up into a nice little Christmas package which will be shopped to studios before the incoming holiday break. The trade paper says that the project will, in no doubt, be the subject of a bidding war once it’s touted, which will probably in the next week or so.

Aaron and Jordan Kandell (who had a hand in the story for Disney’s Moana film) wrote the spec script.

Woodley can be seen in the true story of Edward Snowden in Snowden, which is released in cinemas this week (we reviewed the film at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, which you can read here). She will then head to HBO next year for the series Big Little Lies.

Kormakur also has a new film due which also premiered at TIFF, the Icelandic movie Eiourinn, which is translated as ‘The Oath’. The filmmaker also stars in the film.

We’d expect shooting to begin quite promptly on the film once it has a backer (depending on everyone’s schedule), but don[‘t worry, we’ll bring you more on Adrift as it comes our way.
