Chad Stahelski, the co-director of John Wick and the helmer of its sequel John Wick: Chapter 2, has been hired to take on the remake of Highlander. The redo of the classic 1980s film which starred Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery is housed over at Lionsgate/ Summit Entertainment and will be produced by Neal H. Moritz and Peter Davis.
The news was announced today over at The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’ve been a huge fan of the original property since I saw it in high school,” Stahelski said. “Such great themes of immortality, love, and identity are all wrapped up in such colorful mythology. I can’t think of a better property that gives the opportunity to create interesting characters, mythic themes and action set pieces.”
Stahelski will release John Wick 2 in February, which was wrapped earlier this year. Before starting work on Highlander he will shoot Triple Threat, a brand new action film with Tony Jaa, Tiger Chen and Iko Uwais.
