The planned remake of the superb Norwegian found-footage fantasy film Troll Hunter looks like it may be dead in the water. The remake rights to the film, which we reviewed very positively upon its initial release over here, were held by Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures, but according to the original film’s director Andre Ovredal, it looks like those rights have reverted back to him.
Ovredal spoke with Birth.Movies.Death about the redo.
“I don’t know exactly [what happened]. I was very happy with what I read; I never communicated with anybody about it, but I read online that Neil Marshall was attached to direct it, and I was like, ‘OK, I can get behind that,’ and then suddenly it didn’t happen. I believe that just after signing up for Troll Hunter, Neil got too busy with Game of Thrones, and that’s what stopped it; that seems to be the case, anyway, and then it just kind of died.”
More at the end of the link above. Ovredal’s next film is the brilliant The Autopsy Of Jane Doe, a film that we caught at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. You can read that review at the end of the link above.
