Development on the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody is moving ahead at pace as it has been revealed that Bryan Singer is possibly set to direct the film with Mr. Robot‘s Rami Malek in the role of legendary frontman Freddie Mercury.
The project is set up at 20th Century Fox, New Regency and GK Films, and has been in development for eight years. Singer is officially ‘in talks’ to direct from a script by The Theory of Everything scribe Anthony McCarten.
Deadline report the news of Malek’s casting and also reveals that original Queen band members Brian May and Roger Taylor will serve as music producers on the high-profile project.
Shooting on Bohemian Rhapsody will begin early next year, supposedly for a 2018 release.
