Entertainment Weekly are reporting that the release of Stephen King adaptation The Dark Tower has been pushed back from February to the summer of 2017.
Shooting on the film completed back in July but Sony Pictures and production company MRC have decided post-production can’t be finished in time for the February release, so have pushed it back to an unspecified summer slot. Nikolaj Arcel is directing the film with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the two lead roles.
The film has a surprisingly low cost of about $60 million, and the choice was either to add millions more to the budget to speed up the work, or push to a later date.
The fantasy/ action follow a gunslinger (Elba) and an evil sorcerer (McConaughey) who embark on a journey to reach a mystical tower that can save their decaying world.
There are seven novels in King’s series and there are multiple films planned, so I guess it’s important that things are right.
We’ll bring you more as we get it.
