Catherine Keener, the accomplished actress who has appeared in the likes of Being John Malkovich and Capote, has joined the cast of the Sicario sequel, Soldado. The film, which will see the return of Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro‘s characters, will follow on from the events of the first movie, released back in 2015.
The movie, once again written by Taylor Sheridan (Hell Or High Water) will focus on the exploits of del Toro’s character, Allejandro Gillick. Stefano Sollima is directing following his massive success of the Gommorah TV series and this year’s excellent Suburra.
Deadline reports that Keener will play Brolin’s character of Matt Grave’s boss, who is ‘trying to navigate the grey area that Gillick and Graver live in as the tale turns to what else is being smuggled across the border between Mexico and the U.S. in the tunnels used to move drugs and illegal immigrants. Those tunnels also can be used to bring terrorists into the U.S.’
Shooting is expected to kick off on Soldado very soon with a release pencilled in for 2018.
