Keep Dancing review

Keep Dancing waltzes and twirls you around the dance floor for an entertaining evening. Anya Garnis and Robin Windsor of Strictly Come Dancing fame were enchanting to watch as they quick-stepped across the dance floor.

The dancers were fun to watch and the children in the audience where delighted as they saw Strictly Come Dancing in for real. Lisa Riley was the guest star – she danced four dances throughout the show and where she lacked skill and talent Lisa made up for enthusiasm, even surprising the audience with a split which drew great applause.  The whole show would have been fabulous as a dinner and show combination, but was not quite slick enough to hold its own as an evening entertainment.  I felt that the light entertainment, which I’m more used to seeing on Strictly Come Dancing seemed to lack the presence to fill the big stage, however comparing this to a ballet or themed musical possibly casts this show in a poor light.  For skilful dancing, upbeat showtime numbers and cabaret singing this ticked all the boxes.

There were several themed sections, although the transition between pieces was often lacking a connecting thread.  The dancing was interspersed with musical interludes typical of this type of production where everyone in the cast had to get their own moment in the spot light.  Latin dances appeared throughout, and were one of the highlights, the passion of music and movement really provided a lift from the slower tempo numbers.  The variation was good, the cast covered almost every style of dance, which satisfied the audience who lapped up the entertainment with gusto.

The final half of the second act greatly improved and if the gusto and ambience of the final few dances had been present earlier on then the show would have been far more entertaining.
