Disney’s Queen of Katwe received its world premiere at Roy Thompson Hall over the weekend as part of the 2016 Toronto Film Festival, where the cast, filmmakers and real life stars received a standing ovation. We really liked the film too, and you can read our full non-spoilery review on the site over here.
The film, which is based on the vibrant true story of a young girl from the streets of Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, stars David Oyelowo, Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o and newcomer Madina Nalwanga and is directed by Mira Nair.
THN’s own Paul Heath and HeyUGuys‘ critic Stefan Pape discussed their thoughts on the streets of Toronto shortly after their screening, and you can hear those thoughts in the video player below.
