Opening this year’s proud-to-be-loud audience faves at Midnight Madness at Toronto 2016 is Ben Wheatley‘s second film in as many years, Free Fire.
A proper assault on the senses, Free Fire is set in one location and in real-time, and revolves around a gun deal between two parties in a warehouse somewhere in 1970s Massachusetts. Cillain Murphy, Brie Larson, Michael Smiley, Armie Hammer and the awesome Sharlto Copley are amongst the cast.
Justine (Brie Larson) has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen (Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley) and a gang led by Vernon (Sharlto Copley) and Ord (Armie Hammer) who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired in the handover, a heart stopping game of survival ensues.
Our own Paul Heath and HeyUGuys‘ reviews editor Stefan Pape got together in Festival Street in downtown Toronto to discuss the film. No spoilers ahead.
