The 2016 Horror Channel Frightfest is in full swing. Since Thursday night the VUE cinema in Shepherd’s Bush has been overrun with the dark heart of cinema as fans flock to watch all the festival has to offer. In addition to plenty of screenings, the festival also has a strong filmmaker presence with just about everyone turning up to introduce their films.
Beyond the Gates is one of our absolute favourites of this year’s Frightfest; the film sees two estranged brothers unite to go through their late father’s belongings. Whilst packing things up they find an old VHS interactive board game called ‘Beyond the Gates’ and decide to have a play. However, this is no ordinary game and by starting to play they have put their own lives on the line. It’s a fantastic throwback to the 80’s/90’s yesteryear of horror and also includes actress Barbara Crampton, well known to fans of that era for her role in The Re-Animator.
Representing Beyond the Gates at this year’s Frightfest were director Jackson Stewart, and actors Graham Skipper (who plays Gordon) and Jesse Merlin (who plays Elric). We were delighted to get the chance to chat with the team, here’s what they had to say:
