Mary Poppins Returns cast

The Mary Poppins Returns cast is growing in both size and stature as it adds SPECTRE and London Spy actor Ben Whishaw to proceedings. Whishaw, who plays Q in the James Bond movies will join the likes of Emily Blunt (who plays the title role),  Lin-Manuel Miranda, who plays a lamplighter named Jack, and Meryl Streep as Poppins’ cousin Topsy.

There are also rumours that both Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke will appear in the Disney backed sequel, which will be released on Christmas Day 2018.

The story will take place in Depression-era London (when the books were originally written) and follows a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Whishaw will play the grown-up Michael Banks in Mary Poppins Returns, which is based on the series of novels by writer P.L. Travers, the author who was immortalised in the superb biopic Saving Mr. Banks, also produced by Disney. David Magee is adapting the source material for the new movie, while Rob Marshall is directing. Mary Poppins Returns is produced by Marshall, Emmy winner and Golden Globe nominee John DeLuca and Oscar, Emmy and Tony Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Marc Platt.

We’ll follow-up this post with any further news regarding this superb and highly-talented Mary Poppins Returns cast as it comes our way.
