We all know that Alden Ehrenreich is set to play the young Han Solo in a forthcoming movie over at Lucasfilm, but what we didn’t known until today is that that multiple movies featuring the character are being planned.
Ehrenreich was introduced formally as Han Solo at Star Wars Celebration over in London just over a week ago, and now news hits us from the The New York Daily News that Disney and Lucasfilm have huge plans for a new franchise featuring the young star.
The word is that Ehrenreich has a three-picture deal at the studio starting with the first movie from Chris Miller and Phil Lord which hits screens in 2018. Here’s what an insider had to say to the newspaper.
“There is a real sense of excitement around the Han Solo movie and its potential. Given that Han’s early adventures do not need to be tied to the Empire, it leaves story lines open with the opportunity to really give fans something different. They can explore new galaxies and crazy creatures and bring in a wide array of new characters.”
Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan wrote the screenplay for the planned first movie, which will hit cinemas on May 25th, 2018. There’s been no official confirmation from Lucasfilm or its parent company Disney about the trilogy, but as soon as we hear more, we’ll update you.
