A week ago we were lucky enough to visit Secret Cinema’s fantastic Dirty Dancing event in East London – quite simply one of the best nights of our lives. We were a little limited in what we could tell you about the event as we didn’t want to spoil it for others. Well, not that the event has ended we can reveal some images and an awesome drone video from the event to give you an idea of its scale. It was, quite simply… amazing.
An event that had us dancing from the moment that we entered the Leyton Jubilee Park which was dressed up as Kellerman’s, the fictional holiday camp from the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing. We danced, we took part in art classes, carried watermelons naughtily into the staff quarters when we weren’t meant to, drank summer cocktails and eventually watched a movie.
Secret Cinema’s Dirty Dancing played to a mindblowing total audience of 30,000 dancing film fans, which came alive with live bands, DJs and mass dances. The traditional Mountain House offered distinguished guests the opportunity to catch up over a cocktail or to learn the chachacha, whereas the Staff Quarters were shaking to the beats of the latest 60s tunes. Watermelons included.
The film was also pushed back into the top 10 UK box office charts, 29 years after it was first released in 1987.
Take a look at some footage from a drone camera high above the crowd as the film’s famous climactic scene played out, as well as some superb images from the day.
We so cannot wait for the next event – we have no idea what they’re planning next, but we’ll be sure to bring you more news as it comes in. Take a look at this, and don’t forget to read our review of the event at the end of the link above.
