Stephen Gaghan’s ‘Gold’ with Matthew McConaughey gets Christmas debut

Gold, the forthcoming Stephen Gaghan directed drama, which stars Matthew McConaughey, has been given a Christmas debut in the U.S., potentially opening it up for Oscar season voting.

Variety reports that McConaughey stars as a modern-day prospector desperate for a lucky break who teams up with a similarly eager geologist — played by Edgar Ramirez — and sets off to find gold in the uncharted jungle of Indonesia. The film is inspired by a true story, the screenplay written by written by Patrick Massett and John Zinman.

The film is being described as an adventure-drama.

As you can see from the image below, McConaughey sports quite the ‘do’ in the flick.

Bryce Dallas Howard, Corey Stoll, Toby Kebbell, Bruce Greenwood and Stacy Keach also star in the film, which will be released on Christmas Day, a Sunday, the only film to open on that day.

The film is still awaiting a UK release. More as it comes in.
