One of the hottest talents on film (and television) right now is Idris Elba, and now the actor is looking to step behind the camera for his first feature film directing effort, and adaptation of Victor Headley’s 1993 novel Yardie.
The book revolves around the character D, a courier carrying cocaine from Jamaica to London, who decides to go it alone and disappears into the mean streets of Hackney carrying a kilo of white powder that his erstwhile friends are anxious to recover. But D’s treachery will never be forgotten – or forgiven.
It’s obviously a project that Hackney native is eager to get cracking on, but there’s no news on when it will roll – it’s very early days.
Elba is currently shooting The Dark Tower in New York, and will then reprise his role as Heimdall in Thor: Ragnarok which has just started shooting in Australia. He will next be seen in Star Trek Beyond, which debuts later this month.
