Idris Elba pictured filming ‘The Dark Tower’ in New York

After spotting Matthew McConaughey on set late last week, Idris Elba has been seen filming The Dark Tower on the streets of New York City over the weekend.

The Dark Tower is based on a series of books written by American author Stephen King, which incorporates themes from multiple genres, including dark fantasy, science fantasy, horror, and Western. It is currently being adapted for the big screen in a huge production being overseen by Nikolaj Arcel, and will release in 2017.

Elba plays the gunslinger Roland Deschain in the film, while McConaughey plays the  villain The Man in Black. Jackie Earle Haley, Fran Kranz, Kathryn Winnick, and Abby Lee also star.
