Universal Pictures have announced that their sequel to Pacific Rim will officially hit the street in 2018. John Boyega (The Force Awakens) will headline the new movie, directed by Steven S. DeKnight, and audiences can expect to see it on February 23, 2018.
Boyega will play the son of Idris Elba’s character from the original 2013 movie in Pacific Rim 2, which should start shooting before the end of the year. Guilermo del Toro’s original movie took $411M worldwide, most of it from outside of the U.S. where it wasn’t considered to be a hit.
It has done enough to warrant a sequel though, and expectations are high for Pacific rim 2.
More as it comes in.
