Walt Disney Animation Studios have officially announced that they will release a sequel to Wreck-It-Ralph in 2018. The studio will throw Wreck-It-Ralph 2 into cinemas on March 9th 2018 and the film will be a direct sequel to their 2012 break-out hit and indeed Oscar nominee.
Director Rich Moore addressed fans on the Breaking News Facebook Live broadcast, introducing Phil Johnston, who co-wrote Wreck It Ralph and this year’s awesome Zootropolis. Johnston will be co-direct Wreck It Ralph 2 with Rich Moore.
Wreck It Ralph grossed $471.2M at the global box office and featured the voices of John C. Reilly, Jane Lynch and Sarah Silverman. It revolved around a video game villain who wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfil his dream, his quest bringing havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.
Work is probably already underway on the film at the Mouse House as there’s less than two years until that big release, and as we all know animated movies take upwards of three years to get from the page to the screen.
John C. Reilly had previously confirmed to return.
