Avatar helmer James Cameron has finally delivered his verdict on J.J. Abrams‘ Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Cameron was chatting to reporter Hannah Litchfield who asked him exactly what he thought of the seventh film in the legendary saga. While he did not come out and say that he didn’t like the film very much, he desperately tried to avoid the question in the video interview.
Here’s what he had to say.
“Well… George Lucas is a friend of mine and George and I had a good conversation about it,” he said. “I don’t want to say too much about the film as I have a lot of respect for J.J. Abrams. I want to see where they’re taking it next, see what they’re doing with it. But I gotta say I think that George’s six films, had more innovative visual imagination. And this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before, and characters you had seen before. It took a few baby steps forward with new characters. But for me the jury is out, I want to see where they go with it.”
Rian Johnson is the next filmmaker to step up to the plate with the in-production Episode 8, a film that will probably be forever compared to The Empire Strikes Back, arguably the best film in the entire saga. That film will be released in the December of 2017.
