The future of True Detective is up in the air at the moment after a slightly disappointing second season (which I actually liked by the way), but it looks like one half of the original duo from the first season may be up for a return. That man is Matthew McConaughey. The actor is out and about promoting Free State Of Jones, which opens across America this weekend.
McConaughey was asked on on Wednesday’s episode of The Rich Eisen Show, if he would be up for a return to the HBO show, which was kind of left open for him to do so.
“Yeah, I would,” McConaughey said. “I miss Rust Cohle, man. I miss watching him on Sunday nights. I miss watching True Detective on Sunday nights. … I was a happy man when we made that for six months, because I was on my own island.”
Oh gosh, wouldn’t that be awesome? Personally I can’t see it happening due to an absolutely packed schedule for the in-demand Oscar-winner, but who knows?
“It would have to be the right context, the right way,” he added in the same interview. “That thing — when I read it, I knew in 20 minutes if I can play this guy, Rustin Cohle, I’m in.”
