We all know that Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and screenwriter David Koepp are all looking at brining a fifth Indiana Jones movie to the screen in 2019. The big question on everyone’s lips though is if there will be any more Indy movies AFTER that one.
We know that Spielberg has;t got immediate plans to kill of his iconic character, and was recently quoted in saying, “I think this one is straight down the pike for the fans. The one thing I will tell you is I’m not killing off Harrison [Ford] at the end of it.” So Indy will not be killed – but the Harrison Ford isn’t getting any older either, so the baton has to be passed somehow, particularly as the Mouse House has plans for more movies in the future.
Disney head Bob Iger spoke to The Hollywood Reporter who asked him if we could expect spin-offs and multiple sequels, a bit like how the studio, who acquired Lucasfilm in 2012, did with the Star Wars movies.
“Not like Star Wars, but we hope… right now, we’re focused on a reboot, or a continuum and then a reboot of some sort. Well, we’ll bring him back, then we have to figure out what comes next. That’s what I mean. It’s not really a reboot, it’s a boot – a reboot. I don’t know. We [got] Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones in the film. But then what’s the direction? I’ve had discussions about what the direction is, [but] I don’t want to get into it. I don’t think it reaches the scale of the universe of Star Wars, but I see making more. It won’t be just a one-off.”
We can;t wait to see what they come up with. It’s not going to be easy to please the fans, but they must come up with a solution pretty darned quick. Well, actually, Spielberg has two films before he shoots Indy 5, so there is a little time.
We’ll bring you more as we get it.
