‘Justice League’ will be just ONE movie – plus tons more news

A whole bunch of press outlets were invited to the set of Justice League, the multi-superhero movie from DC and Warner Brothers which is now shooting in London. Quite a lot of news has come out of the visits, the big news-bites being that the film will stand-alone in just one part – not two. It will simply be called Justice League and will release next November. However, producer Deborah Snyder says that they are still very much on track for a second film on the date they have scheduled in 2019.

Snyder added: “All the films kind of fit in a timeline, but they’re independent films. You can see one and not need to see the other. They operate on their own. They all have their own tone and they deal with different characters. Yet they’re all in the same filmic universe and there is little bits of crossovers that we see. But that isn’t essential to the story.”

According to multiple outlets, it will have a much lighter tone than the heavy Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, which was released earlier this year. It will also have a huge Jack Kirby influence, with ‘the story revolving around the pursuit of the three motherboxes, one from Earth, one from Atlantis, and one from The Amazonians.’

The film’s main villain is confirmed to be Steppenwolf, though an actor has not yet been locked down for the role. Willem Dafoe plays Vulko, an Atlantean from an earlier generation than Aquaman and we will see Atlantis in different time periods, and Amber Heard is still playing Mena.

Joblo.com revealed that ‘the film takes places months after BVS, with Bruce heavily affected by Superman’s death and seeking to honor his sacrifice in building the Justice League. Rather than being a Batman on the edge, he is now a Batman full of hope, hinged entirely on created a team that can unite and fight common threats, while redeeming mankind, having learned his lessons in BVS.’

The site added that ‘a large part of the film focuses on Bruce assembling the team, with Superman’s return reserved for later in the film. About his comeback, Snyder was mum, although when I asked how his hair would be, Snyder joking said it might be “a little longer” which is significant if you remember the “Death of Superman” comics.’

The two other confirmations were that Amy Adams will return as Lois Lane and Ben Affleck will direct a stand alone Batman movie, though shooting will not start until a solid script is in place.

More on Justice League as we get it. The film opens in November of 2017.
