It looks like Paramount Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer are having another crack at Beverly Hills Cop 4. Following numerous attempts to bring a third sequel to the screen, and a TV series too (it was shelved following the pilot), it seems that Bruckheimer and co. have tapped Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah to direct the fourth instalment in the series.
El Arbi and Fallah are responsible for the drama Black, which won the Discovery Award at the Toronto Film Festival last year. Bruckheimer, who will produce the new movie, was impressed by the film, and has set them to work on the film, which will be based on a screenplay by writers Josh Appelbaum and Andre Nemec. According to Deadline, the story will bring Eddie Murphy’s street smart cop character Axel Foley back to his Detroit origins.
It looks like production will kick off very soon, with the trade blog reporting that it could go before cameras before the end of the year, or in the early part of 2017.
Beverly Hills Cop was released in 1984 with the first sequel, directed by Tony Scott hitting screens five years later. John Landis directed the third film in the series, set in a fictional theme park, which was released in 1994.
More news on the fourth movie as it comes in.

I’ve been a huge fan of Eddie’s since I first saw him on SNL when I was a kid. I hope it’s not a mistake to put the long awaited final chapter of this franchise into the hands of a new director with little experience and no visible evidence of action/comedy on his resume, let alone 2 of these guys. They’ve only done 4 projects, 2 of which are features, and not one of them is a comedy. And Eddie’s improv style of comedy and acting is best utilized in the hands of a capable director who understands that. But I guess if Bruckheimer and Eddie have faith in them… Of course let’s not forget the pile of garbage that was BHC3.
So unless BHC4 is planned as a drama, I’m kind of nervous about how this will turn out.
By the way, BHC 2 hit the screnes in 1987, 3 years, not 5 years, after the first one.
