Cars 3 will apparently be a lot more emotional than the last movie, so says John Lasseter.
John Lasseter, the genius behind some of the biggest Pixar movies has been talking to Entertainment Weekly about his next big project at the Disney-owned studio, Cars 3, which will be with us next year.
Lasseter was playing his cards very close to his chest, but he did reveal some new information about the second sequel in the popular series, which arrives next June. He was speaking on the blue carpet at the premiere of Finding Dory.
“Lightning McQueen, he’s awesome. We’ve got some great new characters, some great racing in it, and it’s a very emotional story. It’s a little bit more akin to Cars 1, where you get into a deep emotion with him. It’s really a special story. It’s very emotional and his relationship with Doc Hudson, and his memory of Doc Hudson.”
Doc Hudson was voiced by the late Paul Newman in the original movie, and was not used in the sequel, which was released after the legendary actor’s death in 2008.
The film’s director Brian Fee has previously said the following of the film’s story: “(McQueen) is not an old man, but he’s one of the older cars on the circuit with new rookies coming in. People start to wonder and ask when he might retire.”
“Everyone can relate to feeling like someone is at their heels,” said Fee. “That they might be a little outdated in something they used to be very good at, feeling an expiration date. And knowing you need someone to help you get a second chance.”
Cars 3 opens in cinemas on June 16th, 2016.
