Brian Grazer and Ron Howard‘s Imagine Entertainment are apparently planning to remake their 1984 classic Splash.
Grazer, who produced the original with Ron Howard directing, spoke to CNBC.
“I’m actually gonna do ‘Splash’ today,” said Grazer. “I’m actually going to do it from the point of view of… I can’t say anything about it. There’s a movie star involved, I haven’t announced it.”
The original starred Tom Hanks and Daryl Hannah, and revolved around a young boy who is saved from drowning by a beautiful mermaid. He falls in love with her 20 years later when she returns to seek him out.
The word is that a new movie could be based on Wet, which was the title of the original treatment for the movie, with the story told from the mermaid’s point-of-view.
“We’re going to do a version of that, but I can’t tell you the twist,” Grazer added.
