We’re hearing from Universal Pictures that the second sequel to Pitch Perfect has been pushed back from next summer to Christmas 2017.
Pitch Perfect 3, which will reunite everyone from the previous movies, was set for a Stateside release on July 21, 2017, but the studio has decided to push it back to December 22, 2017, allowing Malcolm Lee’s Girl Trip to take its summer slot.
The reason for the the move is unknown, but now it will open alongside The Croods 2 and The Six Billion Dollar Man in the United States, and will also have to deal with the fallout of the release of Star Wars Episode 8.
The Pitch Perfect franchise is a big one for the studio, and has so far raked in nearly $400 million from the first two instalments. That’s from a combined budget of around $50 million.
Anna Kendrick, Britanny Snow and Rebel Wilson will lead the cast of Pitch Perfect 3, with Elizabeth Banks returning to direct.
