Twitter reveals the first image of Fast Eight’s villainess Cipher played by Charlize Theron.
The end of the seventh Fast and the Furious film packed an unbelievable emotional punch as the character of Brian was written out. After the tragic and untimely death of Paul Walker fans were uncertain whether the franchise in which he made his name would continue. They didn’t have to wait too long though as the film amassed a mighty box-office, meaning that of course they’d be more. In fact an entire new trilogy was announced and whilst first thoughts were that a new crew would lead the action, that was quickly quashed as Vin Diesel announced his involvement.
Other cast members confirmed to return include Dwayne Johnson, Kurt Russell, Nathalie Emmanuel and Jason Statham with both Eva Mendez and Lucas Black rumoured to be returning to the fold. Statham was the badass villain of the seventh film but had been detained in an underground bunker with his chances of breaking out limited. You should never underestimate Statham though, he’s gotten himself out of some very sticky situations before. That being said, he isn’t the main villain of the film, that job falls on the very capable shoulders of Charlize Theron.
Theron will be the franchise’s first female foe, and all that has been shared about her so far is her name – Cipher – and this image.

We’re loving her choice of music and can only assume that with a name like Cipher there will be a computer hacking element to her character. Especially if Emmanuel is returning as Ramsey, another hacker. Theron is likely to be great in the role as she does the villain so well – she’s the only reason to watch both Huntsman films – and is no stranger to driving on film. Granted her role in The Italian Job remake wasn’t particularly strong, but her turn as Furiosa in last year’s Mad Max: Fury Road was great. She managed to completely steal the film from under the title hero’s feet. She’ll have a tough job to upstage the likes of Diesel, The Rock and Statham however, but if anyone can, it’s this lady.
The production of the eighth film will take place primarily in Cuba, making the film the first major studio movie to be allowed to film on the island.
The eighth Fast and the Furious film will arrive in cinemas on 14th April 2017.
