Television series 24 proved that making the move to television wasn’t the nail in a movie star’s coffin that it once was. Kiefer Sutherland found himself thrown back into the spotlight and his success with the role of Jack Bauer paved the way for other big league actors to make the switch to the small screen. The show ran with Kiefer for nine seasons (or eight and a half days) with the most recent one seeing the action shift from the US to London. The semi-revival shortened outing of the show was met with a lukewarm reception and after the series ended Sutherland confirmed that his time as Jack was behind him. That news hasn’t deterred Fox though as a new series in on its way.

The show simply titled 24: Legacy sees Straight Outta Compton’s Corey Hawkins take over Bauer’s mantle as he plays Eric Carter. The plot will follow Carter, a military hero who returns to the US with a whole lot of trouble following him. With nowhere else to turn, he asks CTU to help save his life whilst also trying to stop one of the largest scale terrorist attacks ever witnessed on American soil.

The London set series condensed the episodes from 24 to 12 meaning that some of the real time magic was lost, I know Jack can cram a lot into a day but trying to fit the same amount into half a day required a massive suspension of belief from audiences. Legacy will return to the proper 24 episodes, and hour an episode format, complete with split-screen action, a technique that the show created. Ahead of its post Superbowl launch next February we’ve managed to get our hands on this first look trailer.

All the elements that made the show great seem to be there; CTU, terrorists, the man-bag, and the fact that Kiefer is on board as a producer makes us hopeful that this series may succeed where 24: Live Another Day failed. We have a slight wait on our hands though as the show doesn’t return in the US until 5th February, a UK date has not yet been set.
