Cannes 2016: Sibling rivalry secrets? Oasis ‘Supersonic’ documentary to be revealed

SUPERSONICTHNIf you love music and grew up in the mid-to-late 90s in the UK, and abroad, then Britpop and Oasis were undoubtedly part of your life whether you liked or hated them. I was taken along for the Oasis, Blur, Pulp, The Bluetones (and so on…) ride quite willingly and loved every minute. The Gallagher brothers wibbling rivalry was wonderfully infamous as the band hit the very highest heights with their first two albums Definitely Maybe and (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?

Of course, as we all know, there were also lows but not musically, just with constant in-house feuds. With all this in mind, Supersonic is the new, upcoming documentary from Mat Whitecross and producer James Gay Rees (Amy), alongside Academy Award-winning executive producer Asif Kapadia.

Supersonic is set to document the bands journey from the moment when Noel Gallagher joined his brother Liam’s band – the two boys who shared a bedroom growing up – and then shared a stage. Oasis went from releasing their first single in 1994, to record-breaking shows at Knebworth in 1996, where they played to 125,000 fans per night with unforgettable performances.

Noel and Liam will be all out there to see and we’re promised rare footage, and archive material – This could be a lot of good stuff indeed, we hope!

Supersonic is set to open in UK cinemas this October 2016.
