Director Adam Wingard and writer Simon Barrett have in recent years produced some top quality horror thrillers. The duo are responsible for A Horrible Way to Die, You’re Next, and the absolutely brilliant The Guest, a film that launched both Dan Stevens and Maika Monroe. With a CV as impressive as that everyone is waiting with baited breath for their next offering The Woods.
The Woods, releasing through Lionsgate who made their name in the horror genre, is a horror film to rival The Blair Witch Project, at least that’s the hope. The plot details are being kept pretty sparse and all we know so far is that the story revolves around a group of college kids on a camping trip who discover they aren’t alone. Basically it’s the premise of pretty much every horror film going but early buzz is promising something special. A trailer landed yesterday which thankfully opts to tease the scares rather than give them all away.
The style of the trailer is very reminiscent of The Witch which released earlier this year to much critical acclaim. It has obviously also taken soundtrack inspiration from the fantastic 10 Cloverfield Lane (which had a creepy cover of Tiffany’s I Think We’re Alone Now), and uses a chilling rendition of Sting and The Police’s Every Breath you Take.
The Woods arrives Stateside on 16th September with a UK date still to be announced.
