Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War opened in North American cinemas this weekend, and it seems to have done pretty well. The Russo brothers’ directed sequel managed to pull in an estimated $181.7 million in the three days that it has been out there.
To put the colossal figure into perspective, the haul is nearly double to what the last Captain America, ‘Winter Soldier’, which only managed $95 million in its opening weekend. The three day take of ‘Civil War’ is only $10 million short of Avengers: Age Of Ultron, which opened at the same time last year. The first Avengers movie, known as Avengers Assemble in the UK, is still the biggest opener, with $207.4 million a few years back.
Internationally, Captain America: Civil War has taken $678 million around the world, including $40 million in the UK. With its very positive reviews, pretty much across the board, expect these figures to grow even more over the coming weeks.
