Space Jam 2 has been announced, and basketball superstar Lebron James is all set to lead the cast of the forthcoming movie with Star Trek Beyond‘s Justin Lin directing.
Space Jam 2, a follow-up to the much-loved 1996 sports comedy/ animation hybrid, will potentially go into production just as soon as Lin has finished up on this summer’s Star Trek sequel, though, according to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s not officially signed on the dotted line as yet. If he does, Lin will also produce the film. Andrew Dodge wrote the screenplay.
Here’s the plot of the original, which starred basketball legend Michael Jordan in the lead role, along with a whole bunch of Looney Tunes characters.
Swackhammer (Danny DeVito), an evil alien theme park owner, needs a new attraction at Moron Mountain. When his gang, the Nerdlucks, heads to Earth to kidnap Bugs Bunny (Billy West) and the Looney Tunes, Bugs challenges them to a basketball game to determine their fate. The aliens agree, but they steal the powers of NBA basketball players, including Larry Bird (Larry Bird) and Charles Barkley (Charles Barkley) — so Bugs gets some help from superstar Michael Jordan (Michael Jordan).
More on Space Jam 2 as we get it.
