The 69th Cannes Film Festival is fast approaching, and this time next week, we’ll be shifting our films thoughts towards the south of France when Woody Allen’s Cafe Society officiall kicks things off on May 11th. We’ve got some more exciting Cannes news today as it has been revealed that Robert De Niro will head to the Croisette to debut his new film, Hands Of Stone in a special screening.
According to the official release, The Weinstein Company will screen the boxing biopic in a tribute to the acting legend.
Hands Of Stone is about the common history of Panamanian boxer Roberto Duràn (Edgar Ramírez) and manager and coach Ray Arcel (Robert De Niro) who is going to take him to the highest worldwide successes of the ring in the ’70s and ’80s, including legendary fights against Sugar Ray Leonard.
“I’m excited to be coming back to Cannes especially with this movie Hands of Stone that I’m so proud of,” said De Niro. “This movie is uplifting, triumphant and a good time for audiences, so I’m looking forward to seeing my friends from across the world of cinema in joining us for this fun event.”
The special screening is expected to take place on Monday 16th May, 2016. We’ll be in Cannes fro the entirety of the festival, and will be bringing you all of the news from the Croisette each and every day.
