The Best of ‘Ratchet & Clank’s’ Arsenal – Our Favourite Weapons

R&C weapon

Ratchet and Clank arrives in UK cinemas on Friday (29th April); the film is based on the highly successful series of Sony PlayStation games. The story follows unlikely hero Ratchet, a loveable lombax, and his robotic sidekick Clank, as they try to save the world from an insane megalomaniac.

One of the highlights of the games are the weird and wacky arsenal that Ratchet is equipped with, and the film is sure to feature at least a handful of them. With that in mind, we’ve decided to list our absolute favourite weapons.

Suck Cannon

R&C Suck CannonThe Suck Cannon turns the common vacuum cleaner into a death-dealing machine; a brilliant weapon that doesn’t require ammo in the traditional sense. It eliminates enemies in two ways, the first line of defence is that the Suck Cannon effortlessly sucks up small enemies that may cross your path. Once you have reached capacity you can turn the tables on larger enemies by firing out the previously sucked up enemies at them. The science behind the tech is that it uses an advanced vortex manipulator and quantum compression technology.

Animal Arsenal

R&C SheepinatorIf you are more of a peace and love than war person then this series of weapons are the ones for you. Rather than mortally wounding your foe, or causing them to explode horribly The Sheepinator, Qwack-O-Ray, Chimpomatic and Morph-O-Ray all share the same trait – they render your enemies harmless by turning them into a cute and cuddly critter.

R&C QwackIn case you can’t work it out, the Sheepinator transforms the enemy into a sheep, or a rare black sheep if you use it enough to upgrade it. The Qwack-O-Ray changes the baddies to ducks, the Chimpomatic obviously creates chimps, whilst the Morph-O-Ray morphed them into chickens. The craze for animal weaponry started by accident, the Morph-O-Ray was originally meant to disintegrate the target, however a glitch caused the chicken change. It turned out to be a happy mistake though as a perk of all these weapons is that there is no need for ammunition.

Groovitron Glove

Groovitron GloveEverybody loves a good boogie and the Groovitron Glove offers the chance to share the love of music with your sworn enemy. Once unleashed the Groovitron Glove releases a dazzling disco ball that induces uncontrollable fits of Saturday Night Fever style dancing for all nearby enemies. Just make sure that you yourself don’t get mesmerised by the shiny globe as whilst your enemies are distracted, this is the perfect time to strike.

Mr. Zurkon

R&C Mr ZurkonMr. Zurkon is the most elite robotic bodyguard on the market. An obvious progression from the likes of the Glove of Doom and Agents of Doom, Mr. Zurkon replaces a team of war hungry machines all by himself. A great ally in a fight, Mr. Zurkon will not only have your back, but also has a quip or ten at his disposal. He will strike terror into the hearts of hoards of enemies with nothing more than a simple “Yoo-hoo, Mr. Zurkon is looking to kill you.”

Decoy Glove

R&C Decoy GloveSometimes battle gets hard and no matter how much you try sometimes you need to just take a step back from combat and find alternative methods of progressing. Luckily there is a weapon for every scenario including this one, meet the Decoy Glove. The Decoy Glove does exactly what the name suggests, it creates a decoy version of you that lures enemies in. Whilst they are attacking the inflatable decoy you can quietly sneak past and preserve your life for another day.

Tornado Launcher

R&C Tornado LauncherThe Tornado Launcher gives you the chance to harness the full power of mother nature. We all know that she can be a cruel beast and claims a vast number of lives each and every year. With  the Tornado Launcher you can cast your victim into the eye of the storm as a mini tornado hurtles towards them, sucking them into oblivion. Those that don’t get whisked away to Oz will become so dazed and dizzy that they can easily be dispatched with a trusty omniwrench.

The Infector

InfectorEasily one of the most devious weapons at your disposal has to be The Infector. The Infector uses an advanced mind-control serum that once introduced to a subject, warps their perception of the world around them and causes them to believe that their friends are enemies. Shoot the product into a crowd of your enemy and watch as the group crumbles from the inside out. So here’s the science bit – the weapon works by utilising ‘nano-virus globules’ which once introduced to the bloodstream causes a poisonous dementia. The effect is only temporary, well it isn’t nice playing with someone’s brain is it, so if you’re going to use it get out there sharpish.

Walloper

R&C WalloperSometimes you just have to go back to basics when it comes to defending yourself and the Walloper offers just that. To the unsuspecting eye it looks like any ordinary weapon but this little gun packs a heck of a punch, a literal punch. When an enemy gets too close just pull the trigger and WALLOP, out pops a spring-release boxing glove. It’ll leave more than just a black eye.

Sonic Erupter

R&C Sonic ErupterShould you prefer your weapon to be more organic than machine then you might want to check out the Sonic Erupter. This high-tech gadget harnessed the vocals of a small slug-like creature called a Xenegote. The Sonic Erupter uses powerful sound waves with deadly consequences. The enemy won’t know what hit them, especially as the emitted call sounds rather like a burp, they’ll just think you’re suffering with a spot of trapped wind.

R.Y.N.O

R&C RYNOThe R.Y.N.O, or the ‘Rip You a New One’, is the ultimate in tactical weaponry. It features high-capacity, rapid-fire, auto-tracking missiles, but unfortunately isn’t available from the usual vendors any more. The R.Y.N.O has a dark history and, due to the carnage left behind in its wake, is only available on the weapons black-market.

Find out which of the above make the film cut when Ratchet & Clank arrives in UK and US cinemas on Friday 29th April.
