We first heard that legendary French director Luc Beeson was working on the big-screen adaptation of comic-book Valerian a few years ago now, and it definitely slipped the radar, but ahead of its 2017 release we’ve got the first images and the full title which is Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.
For those who haven’t heard about it, Valérian and Laureline, also known as Valérian: Spatio-Temporal Agent was a French sci-fic series created by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières and begun in 1967. Interestingly, the comic book is said to have had a large influence on Star Wars with many elements looking rather similar in style and, if anything, we think George Lucas ‘may have’ adapted a number of ideas himself.
There’s an all-star cast that includes Cara Delevingne, Dane DeHaan, Clive Owen, Rihanna, Ethan Hawke, Herbie Hancock and Kris Wu and here’s your plot teaser just before those new images! Oh and Beeson and co, if you’re reading, I suggest shortening that title before the film release…
Valerian (DeHaan) and Laureline (Delevingne) are special operatives for the government of the human territories charged with maintaining order throughout the universe.
