The Tick Peter Serafinowicz casting: British actor will lead the new TV show based on the comic book series.

The Tick Peter Serafinowicz

British actor Peter Serafinowicz has signed up to play The Tick for Amazon Studios. The planned TV series is a co-production between Amazon and Sony Pictures Television.

More on The Tick Peter Serafinowicz casting below, but first, here’s a little on the original comic book character, who first appeared in New England Comics book in 1986. The character was created by Ben Edlund, and appeared in his own comic book just two years later in 1988.

In the comic series the Tick is a wacky hero who escaped from a mental hospital and started fighting crime in the City. Not much is known about The Tick’s past because he is amnesiac. However, in one comic it is revealed that The Tick had a wife and children, but this may have been his imagination.

Vinyl star Griffin Newman will also appear in The Tick TV show as the accountant-turned-moth-themed-superhero Arthur Everest, while Valorie Curry (House Of Lies) will play Arthur’s sister, Dot.

A previous animated TV show based on the comics, ran for two seasons and 36 episodes back in 1994, and then a live-action version was first aired in 2001, which starred Patrick Warburton in the title role. The show only ran for nine episodes, and was then cancelled by Fox Television. The property has still remained quite popular, and has had a cult following ever since. The Patrick Warburton TV show is now available on DVD, and proves to still be very popular. Warburton is listed as an executive producer on the new show.

The Tick Peter Serafinowicz version will have a pilot episode directed Transcendence‘s Wally Pfister, the filmmaker who also shot Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, so the show has some pretty big names behind the scenes too.

Serafinowicz has appeared in many huge movies, including Shaun Of The Dead, and the more recent Spy and Guardians Of The Galaxy.
